This wonderful children's book inspired my online persona. While trying to find my role in our ever-changing community, I found that I identified most as a builder. As a librarian, I form and forge, construct and fix collections to build foundations for a community to tell their own stories.

At a time when the world is so overwhelming, we often feel confused and uncertain about what to do. The social change ecosystem framework has been an anchor and guide for many people and groups to organize our roles and strengthen our connections.
Now, Deepa Iyer brings her social change ecosystem map to young children and their caregivers in We Are the Builders!
Told in warm, inviting rhyme with vivid illustrations by Romina Galotta, this picture book is a gentle introduction to finding your place and changing your community.
Welcome to our Community Day!
Ready to find your role to play?
It’s Community Day, and all the kids want to know where they fit in. Could they be builders, restoring old furniture for new neighbors? Caregivers, nurturing friends who are sad or lonely? Frontline responders, preparing for emergencies?
What they discover is that there’s a place for every person, no matter their skills or interests—and that collaboration is what makes their community strong.
